Walk on the Wild Side

I have to apologize for the lack of updates lately; once again life gets in the way of blogging…

Time has been short even for sewing (I haven’t made anything during the last couple of weeks). It’s not just the shortage of time; I think it’s also due to the proximity of fall. It’s that time of the year when it’s still hot for wearing summer clothes, yet our mind is set on fall clothes… We lack the mojo to sew the clothes we want because more summer clothes feel like a redundancy and we know that it won’t be possible to wear fall clothes right away.

Anyway, today I came home during lunch break and had time to take a few pictures. I’m wearing a simple T-shirt with an embellished pocket, leather skinny pants and a white jacket (all purchased more than one year ago except for the leather pants, which I own for a couple of months). The calf animal print shoes complete the look and also name this post as a reference to the well known Lou Reed's song (click here to listen on youtube).

you, me and the ocean.

i am so excited about this quilt! it's actually my first "celebration" quilt. it's beyond rare that i have a friend who is having a baby or getting married ( we all decided to do that gig in our early twenties! ) so, when i found out my sister-in-law's was getting married and the wedding is this Saturday... i just knew she needed a quilt!!   :)

she used to take the most wonderful vacation to Cabo San Lucus with her Mom and my Husband's Dad ( her step-father for 25 years ) and since we lost him last winter to cancer, i thought it might be sweet to make her a quilt that embodied the their time together at the sea.  my Husband's Dad and Step-Mom had a wonderful marriage and i hope hers and her soon to be husband share the same great romance.

( ps... i would love to thank my good friend Kristin for always caring the most classy fabrics in her store!  she makes it so easy to envision my designs through her shop's selection, YOU're the bestest!! )

Have a wonderful weekend kids!

Summer Blogosphere Series Part 10

For part 10 of our blog series, I wanted to share this post I came across on Wedding Bee. I just thought it was the cutest thing ever. Their blog is a fantastic resource for brides! It's great to see the thoughts and perspectives of brides just like you! And it's fun to read.

I know the first look makes everything easier on the photographer and other vendors (including us planners), but there is something so romantic about not seeing your significant other until you walk down the aisle on that day. I've always been very traditional in that sense.

All this being said, I am now in love with this idea of a non-first look. You get to hold your love's hand and talk to them without actually seeing each other. Just take a peek at these photos by Danny Boyle Photography and you will fall in love too.

Thoughts on Hosea

I’m baffled by those who’d turn over the award for Best Romance to Ruth or Song of Solomon. Ruth isn’t romantic at all. The men who say so are fooling only themselves. It’s all about opportunism of a divinely-sanctioned sort. And the variety of romance found in the Song of Songs isn’t anything with which anyone nowadays can – or cares to – identify. Of course, that might be the case simply because no one’s quite sure what the storyline is.

Now take Hosea:

“Therefore, behold, I will allure her,
and bring her into the wilderness,
and speak tenderly to her.
And there I will give her her vineyards
and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope.
And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth,
as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt.
- Hosea 2:14-15 (ESV)

Sigh.

But like the best romances, this is a tragedy (only one with a promise of a happy ending). God uses the maternal affairs of His prophet to illustrate His own love for His people who have turned away from Him (i.e., “played the whore”). The pain felt along with the longing to set everything right is present in the text. There is tension between justice and mercy, punishment and reconciliation (cf. Matthew 1:18-25).

Interestingly enough, God doesn’t share His woes to solicit pity. He demands empathy. The “children of Israel” are no more faithful to each other than they are to their Lord. The daughters are prostitutes, dragging the family name through the mud, and the wives commit adultery, la traïson. God uses these examples to show how much the Israelite’s infidelity insults Him. Those who are unfaithful to God do not deserve justice when others sin against them (Hosea 4:14). Taken from a different perspective, as told in “The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant,” we owe others mercy precisely because God has shown us mercy (Matthew 18:21-35; cf. Luke 17:3-4).

That’s probably one of the most difficult lessons in the whole Bible: taking the “Golden Rule” (Matthew 7:12; Luke 3:31; etc.) and its negative form to a natural conclusion. God offers us forgiveness with the expectation – dare I say, under the condition – that we reciprocate by offering it to our fellow man. This is one of those principles that sounds great in church but doesn’t make it out the front door after the service lets out. We each have our own list of unpardonable sins. My own list concentrates on episodes involving heartbreak, public shame, childhood trauma, and devastating long-term consequences. As petty as these might seem from a larger perspective, these are serious obstacles to completely healing my relationships with others.

The question running through my mind is not “why,” since I know I must forgive others, but “how.” When we have to live with the repercussions of others’ poor judgment, it’s difficult to forgive. When others perpetually sin against us, we argue that they’re not genuinely repentant and therefore undeserving of forgiveness. Showing mercy on others becomes a daily chore of astronomical proportions. We’re obligated to do this, but how can we bear it?

Decor: Pom poms

Everyone wants their wedding to be unique. The best way to create a wedding that is different is through the decorations of course. These adorable tissue paper pom poms from Pom Love at Etsy are a fantastic way to make a wedding your own! You can mix them in with your flowers or even use them as a replacement for flowers or Japanese Lanterns!

They come in different patterns and just about every color you could imagine. Take a looksie.

The best part about these darling decorations is that they are made from 100% recycled paper! How eco-friendly!

i can feel it!

can you??? can you feel that summer ( for my children... and your's ) is almost over! YES! very soon... i'll be able to taste it too and that's when it will be time to party! i adore my children, but this is the part of the summer where, " i'm bored " has become as irritating as the "small world " song from Disneyland!!! LOL

and after that last quilt i finished ( i'll picture soon ), i think i found my mojo again!! double YES!! there are definitely two projects i just can't resist anymore, so i've been working ( and by working, of course that means screwing around ) with both of them as much as time will allow!

i have been itching... ITCHING, i tell you to use my Melody Miller Ruby Star Rising 2 fabrics... you can grab some here. I'm only using a half yard of two different prints for this quilt and solids. i really wanted a fall quilt and i just think this may be perfection when completed!

i have also been going silently mad over all those ( Swoon Quilt ) blocks showing up around town... dang, they are just GOOD! Here's some of my fav's... you can click on the image to see more quilty goodness from the artists!! ;)
