Thoughts on Matthew

Even though I read the Bible in a haphazard manner, skipping around and such, I’ve noticed that, of the Gospel accounts, I always end up beginning with Matthew (c. AD 40-65). This time was no different. My journal notes contain thoughts on a number of passages, but today I wanted to discuss the infamous passage on judging others:

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” – Matthew 7:1-5 (ESV)

There’s a hint at a difference in the quality of the two sins by Jesus Christ’s choice of words (e.g., “speck” and “log” in the English Standard Version; “tiny particle” and “beam of timber” in the Amplified Bible; “mote” and “beam” in the King James Version/Authorized Version). As many a children’s Sunday School teachers has pointed out, we should be aware of our hypocrisy and self-righteousness when we’re tempted to criticize other sinners while still wallowing in our own sin. However, as 7:5 says, our sin doesn’t preclude us from judging others at all, but only that God requires our own self-reflection and repentance before correcting others. In addition, I’d argue that the verse says that those who have healed from “worse” sins have a right – an obligation – to correct those with “minor” ones.

On the surface, that might not bother many people. However, in practice, things don’t always work out that way. Most Christians seem unprepared to accept godly criticism from each other. Maybe there’s one acceptation. We expect the woman who used to sleep around and had six kids out of wedlock to tell the junior highers to save sex for marriage, but that’s about it. If the same woman pulled you aside because you were being rude, prideful, or something of that kind, would you listen? Or would you be thinking, She used to be the town slut. I think most would fall in the latter category.

Ignoring the fact that we Christians are quite willing to take instruction from Christ-denying Peter and Christian-persecuting Paul, we’re quite insistent that the rest of humanity should feel their guilt and do perpetual penance for their mistakes, looking to those who haven’t committed comparable sins as spiritual superiors. However, Matthew tells us that these former sinners have something to teach current sinners, regardless of how their faults are compared. It would take a special kind of maturity to bite one’s lip, show humility, and acknowledge a judgment from another Christian. Their success in overcoming grave sins deserves our respect and a willingness to reexamine ourselves in light of their accusations.

blue Autumn.

i don't know about you all... but, i know it took me a long time to be comfortable in my own style. it's actually really hard ( in my opinion ) because i have so many talented friends that are the most amazing color artists and i just simple want everything that make too! but, in the end try as i might... i still don't love reds, purples and pinks in my home ( love them for gifts though!!! ). however, they only last about 3 days here and then i pull them all out of my house and put back my blues, aqua, greens and neutrals. i've since deemed this style { Old Man Study Chic }... it's just my thing i guess, cause i lOVE it sooo much!!... ;)

anyways, autumn is now upon us and i'll be damned if i make the same mistake again and pull out my warm tones... hence my new plan of action... the blue Autumn... isn't she smart.

now to go pull some fabulous fabrics for some lovely additions to my home!!

Better Attitude

Gabriel chillaxing at a Summer BBQ- this kid has got it made!

Such is the life, right? Sitting on a lawn chair, feet up with a frosty beverage Juice Box.

Now that summer is wrapping up, and we are about to fall into Fall (get it.. fall... Fall...- nevermind). It's time to start thinking about keeping up our summer figures, cooler temperatures (thank goodness) and Football.

So, really, this post was for me to remind you to have a great time, enjoy every day, every moment and every small victory, because sometimes we take those moments for granted and we forget to remember that life happens, and if we don't enjoy the little moments they will pass us by.

More leopard print and leather – Mais padrão leopardo e cabedal

These are the same style elements as yesterday’s outfit, using different wardrobe pieces. This time around wearing a leather-look skirt that I made some time ago (sewing details posted here), with a leopard print shirt and an old parka that I dug out of my closet. The only new item is the wired golden cuff on my right wrist (and the golden watch is a recent purchase too, but I wore it before). The weather is still hot and rainy, meaning my hair is all frizzed, sigh. It’s really annoying so I’ve been researching on Hair Straighteners and I’ve just ordered one from Amazon (UK). Any of you has some input on this kind of device?

Epic Baloney!

Complete hogwash, really. I’ve been experiencing this biz for about 2 months now… and I’m just now fully pissed. I can’t leave a comment on anyone’s blog! Blogger claims to not be “able to allow me”. What in the double hockey stick does that mean?? I’ve been anonymously attempting to give blog love forever, but am utterly getting sunk by the blogs that don’t have that option. UUugggGGG!!

I’ll be sitting in a tattoo chair for almost 7 hours today, so if you have any helpful information to this issue… I would be more than available and appreciative of your input!

Thanks kids!!!

Cupcake Cakes

Brides now are starting to use cupcakes to make their wedding cake unique. Not only do they make the cake cutting a lot easier, but they are extremely cute! Here are some of my favorite cupcake cakes!
